One of my favourite things about being a creative person is being able to bring someone else's vision to life and make them happy. And then feed them.
A friend came to me with the idea to make these custom cookies as a surprise for her sister's engagement party. Best sister ever? I think so.
Sometimes customers come to me with a very specific vision for what they want. This was not one of those times, and I kind of loved it. For whatever reason I immediately knew that I wanted to use this square-ish plaque-shape, then the customer and I worked out the rest of the details based on personal information she provided about the happy couple.
I was told that this couple met while camping, loves canoeing, and loves the outdoors. I did a few sketches to show the customer, and we picked the one she liked best (which was my favourite too). Working with the colour palate for the engagement party (white, grey, silver) we decided on using crossed canoe paddles - a motif they wanted to incorporate throughout their wedding - with a wood-grain effect background, and the bride and groom's initials (both names start with "M"). The final result:
I was lucky enough to be there when my customer surprised the couple with these cookies right before their engagement party, and it gave me all the feels. They were so happy, which made me so happy. I even got some hugs. I mean really.
Ah, to be young and in love.... not jaded and married. JUST KIDDING! Love you honey.
