One of the best things about being a creative person is that you tend to meet lots of other creative people, and more often than not those creative people blow your minds with their talent. And then sometimes you get jealous and spiral into a deep pit of doubt and self-loathing...but that's not the point.

This photo sums up the last couple of weeks for me. Cookies, cookies, wine, more cookies, wine. Based on the light in the room it would appear that I took the photo in the middle of the afternoon... oh well, it was 5 o'clock somewhere.
I'm calling these "5am Christmas Cookies" because I was up till 5am working on them the other night. Oops.
It's not that I have poor time-management skills - it's really not. I swear. I just get carried away sometimes. I also like trying new designs (like the mittens) for the first time and occasionally underestimate how long they'll take to execute.... I decorated a lot of snowflake cookies for Christmas 2014. A lot. Possibly hundreds. I should have counted.
To me, it doesn't look like these should take a lot of time to make. And yet... they really do. But they're worth it, 'cause they're so pretty. I love Christmas. I love everything about it. I love that stores start playing Christmas carols in October. I love putting my tree up in the first week of November. I don't care about the revolting commercialism of it all. Your judgement means nothing to me.
Anyhoo. IMO, the best thing about Christmas is how everything smells so wonderful. Evergreens. Cinnamon. Cloves. Spices. Nutmeg. It's all so, so good. |
